UAB Volleyball Falls to Middle Tennessee in Straight Sets

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -Chelsea Ross had 16 kills and seven digs to lead Middle Tennessee to a 3-0 victory over UAB Sunday from Bartow Arena. The Blue Raiders won by scores of 25-18, 25-21, 25-17.
UAB (9-19, 1-12) opened the battle on a 4-2 run but Middle Tennessee (8-18, 6-7) answered with a 5-0 streak to take a 7-4 lead. The two teams exchanged points the remainder of the set until Middle Tennessee clinched the victory with three straight points.
UAB got down early, 10-4, in the second set before reeling off a 9-2 run to take a 19-18 lead that was kick started with an ace from Emma Schroer. The Blue Raiders regained the lead two points later and finished off the set, 25-21, with a Jacqueline Lux ace.
Kassidy Sullivan got the third set underway with a kill from Amber Treace. The Blue Raiders responded with another lengthy streak to take a 7-2 advantage. UAB rallied to cut the deficit to two, 11-9, but Middle Tennessee was able to hold on to earn the victory in straight sets.
Gabby Deshotel paced the Blazers on offense with seven kills. Emma Schroer and Emily Martinez each added six digs.
The UAB women's volleyball team will be back in action Thursday at UTEP. First serve against the Miners is scheduled for 4 p.m CT.
