BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Will Cannon fired a two-round total of even-par, 140, to lead the UAB men's golf team to sixth following 36 holes at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate Monday at the Old Overton Country Club.
As a team the Blazers fired a two-round total of 9-over, 569 to sit halfway through the pack of the 12 teams. UAB shot a 286 in round one and came back with a 3-over, 283 in the second round.
Cannon, who's coming off a career-low round of 65 last week at the Shoal Creek Invitational, sits tied for 12th of the 60 players after his first two rounds. The senior carded a 2-over, 72, to open play, before recording five birdies to shoot a 2-under, 68 to close the day.
Freshman Tim Harry continues his consistent play in his first year of collegiate golf after finishing 2-over, 142 for the day, tied for 18th. Harry put together three birdies along with three bogeys in the opening 18 holes, before shooting 2-over, 72 to finish off the day.
Sophomore Taylor Eyster rebounded from a 4-over, 74, in the first 18 holes, before stringing together five birdies to shoot 1-under, 69 in the second round.
Coming off C-USA Golfer of the Week honors, sophomore Lee Hodges carded an eagle and two birdies in the first round to shoot even-par, 70, before dropping a 74 in round two.
Senior Martin Rohwer finished the day at 10-over, 150, after rounds of 76 and 74.
Alabama leads the 12-team field at 14-under, 546, over Auburn, Florida, Florida State and UNLV.
UAB will be one of the first teams to tee-off Monday beginning at 8 a.m. with UNLV and Florida State.
