BOCA RATON, Fla. – Senior Angelica Jimenez returned from injury with a shutout performance in the first half, but the UAB women’s soccer team fell to Florida Atlantic, 4-0, Friday at the FAU Soccer Stadium.
Jimenez turned away four shots in the first half to shut out Florida Atlantic (11-7, 5-3 C-USA). The two squads were scoreless heading into the break.
The Owls opened the second half on the offensive with the first goal of the match in the 59th minute when Claire Emslie netted a deflection off an Asta Arnadottir assist.
Geovana Alves netted back-to-back goals+ in the 61st minute to push the Florida Atlantic lead to 3-0. Taylor Townsend topped the FAU attack with a penalty kick goal in the 76th minute to extend the Owls’ lead to 4-0.
UAB (2-13-1, 1-7-1 C-USA) totaled eight shots in the match. Junior Morgan Key-Adams and senior Paige Hanks led the UAB offense with two shots each.
Jimenez made her second start of the season in net for the Blazers. The senior goalkeeper made six saves.
UAB will close the 2015 regular season on Oct. 30 when the Blazers host Southern Miss on Senior Night at West Campus Field. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
