BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After back-to-back road matches, the UAB volleyball team returns to Bartow Arena to host Alabama A&M in a non-conference match Tuesday.
First serve against the Lady Bulldogs is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The match is the first non-conference battle for UAB since the Blazers hosted ULM back on Sept. 21.

Third-Straight Double-Double for Deshotel
Junior Gabby Deshotel is in the midst of the best season of her career, setting career-highs in six categories and shattering her season-high kills record with 354 thus far in 2015.

UAB holds an impressive 10-1 record in the all-time series against Alabama A&M with the last contest between the squads coming in the 2013 season when the Blazers won the match in straight sets.

Scouting the Opposition
Alabama A&M enters Tuesday’s contest with a 3-17 record overall with a perfect 2-0 record in SWAC play. The Lady Bulldogs opened the season being swept in straight sets by three opponents, including C-USA’s FIU, before Alabama A&M notched its first victory, 3-1, over Alcorn State. The Lady Bulldogs dropped 12-consecutive matches before jumping into SWAC play with a 3-0 sweep over Mississippi Valley State. Alabama A&M also picked up three-set sweep over Alabama State.
The Lady Bulldogs hold a 1-5 record against shared opponents on the Blazers schedule (ULM, Jacksonville State, Mississippi Valley State and Troy). The Blazers hold a 2-3 record against the four squads with wins over MVSU and JSU.
Ashundria McNeal tops the Alabama A&M offense with a .170 clip and 190 kills to average 3.8 per set. McNeal has added six assists and service aces to the Lady Bulldog attack while contributing 108 digs and a team-leading 37 blocks to the defense.
With 187 assists to average 5.50 per set, Riley Balsmeyer runs the Lady Bulldog offense. The setter has picked up four kills and aces this season. Drea Matthews averages 2.24 digs per set with 112 total to lead the Alabama A&M defense in the category.
