BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After leading UAB to an undefeated weekend, senior forward Kasey Johnson was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
The Coppell, Texas native scored a pair of goals on the weekend to lead the Blazers in goals scored as well as points with four total.
The senior netted the game-tying goal to force overtime against Marshall last Friday as UAB topped the Herd, 2-1, to earn UAB’s first points in league play. The Blazers also snapped Marshall’s NCAA-leading 12-game unbeaten streak.
Johnson tallied her second goal of the weekend on Sunday as the forward recorded UAB’s lone score in a 1-1 double-overtime draw against WKU.
Johnson leads the Blazers in goals scored (5) and points (10) thus far in 2015. The senior is one goal shy from tying her season high of six she set in her debut season for UAB.
In her career, Johnson has 12 career goals and a total of 30 points.
This is Johnson’s first C-USA Player of the Week honor of her career, and the first won by any Blazer this season.
UAB returns to conference action on Tuesday as the Blazers face ODU in a rescheduled match in Norfolk, Va. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
The UAB men's and women's soccer teams will call BBVA Compass Field their new home, beginning with the 2016 season.
