Student-Athlete Of The Week: Sara Rishell

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior middle blocker Sara Rishell of the volleyball team was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Monday. The Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes who excel on and off their respective fields of competition.
Rishell is third on the team in kills thus far in 2014 with 42 for an average of 2.0 kills per set. She was named to the Residence Inn Challenge All-Tournament Team following this past weekend's action in Phoenix.
The Smithsburg, Md., native was solid for UAB in the tournament with 14 kills, five blocks, five digs and four service aces. She had her best against Iowa, posting seven kills in 10 attempts with no errors for a .700 hitting percentage.
Rishell is a standout in the classroom, as well. The English Literature major has a 3.46 cumulative GPA. She was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll this summer and was named the Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year while at American University in 2011.
Rishell and the volleyball team will be back in action tomorrow as they host Chattanooga at 6 p.m. CT in Bartow Arena.
