BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB men's golf team is set to compete in the Inverness Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Toledo at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. The three-round tournament begins on Monday, Sept. 22 and ends on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the par 71, 7,300-yard course.
"This tournament is on an excellent golf course," head coach Alan Murray said. "We have a lot of guys who are playing college tournaments for the first time. I am excited. I think we are going to continue to get better as the year goes on. Everyone's game seems to be in good shape, it is just a matter of whether or not we can perform when we get up there."
UAB is one of 12 teams to make up the tournament field. Also competing will be, Austin Peay, Charlotte, East Tennessee State, Kent State, Liberty, Memphis, Mercer, Michigan State, South Florida, Toledo and Yale.
This will be the second fall tournament for the Blazers, who finished sixth in the Gopher Invitational two weeks ago. Freshman Lee Hodges had a breakout performance lead UAB with his 12th place finish individually.
"Taylor McCullum will be making his debut. He has been playing well in qualifying," Murray said. "It will be exciting to get him in the lineup. Paul (Dunne) is returning for us. He missed the first tournament."
"Martin (Rohwer) and Paul (Dunne) have played a lot of tournaments, but once the other guys get more tournaments under their belts," remarked Murray. "It takes a little time to settle in to college golf. Once they gain more experience their performance will only improve."
Murray will guide UAB in his return to the course where he played in college when for Toledo. Teams will play 54-holes with the low four scores counting each day.
Monday will feature the first 36 holes with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Tuesday’s final round is set to start at 8:00 a.m. Live scoring will be available on birdiefire.com.
