Janae Smith Named To Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Janae Smith was named to the 2014 DoubleTree Los Angeles Westside Thanksgiving Classic for her performance in the UAB women's basketball team's two games.
Smith, a native of Matteson, Ill., averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game to help guide UAB to a 1-1 finish in the tournament. She shot 45.7 percent from the field and was 60 percent from behind the 3-point line in the two games. Smith also added six assists, six steals and five blocks.
She scored a game-high 28 points and added nine rebounds in the Blazers' overtime win against UC Irvine in the consolation game. She also added four assists, four steals and three blocks, all career-bests, against the Anteaters. She posted 15 points and six rebounds against Loyola Marymount.
Smith was also named the College Sports Madness Conference USA Player of the Week for her performance in UAB's three games this past week. She recorded her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead UAB past Loyola Chicago on Tuesday.
UAB will have a week to prepare for its next opponent as it travels just down the road to cross-town rival Samford on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT.
