BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB football team practiced for a little over two hours on Thursday as it continued to prepare for Saturday’s key Conference USA matchup with Louisiana Tech.
Head coach Bill Clark knows how important this week’s game is among the conference standings as well as giving UAB the opportunity to become bowl eligible with two games remaining on the schedule.
"It is huge,” Clark said. “We said last week was huge, and this week is huge. We want to play well. Louisiana Tech is playing extremely well. They are great on all sides of the ball. It's a huge challenge, but it is the next one for us. It gives us a chance to be bowl eligible, which is a huge deal for this team."
The Blazers will be facing a well-rounded Louisiana Tech team that ranks in the top three in scoring offense and scoring defense in Conference USA. This week will be another test for UAB’s offense that has consistently performed well this season, ranking third in total offense in C-USA.
"I think defensively they have really good personnel,” Clark remarked. “I don't want to put it all on the scheme, but they are going to attack you. We like to do that ourselves. We are not as blitz mode as they are, but that is who they are. They are constantly bringing pressure, and when you are under pressure, you make mistakes. They are a very aggressive defense built around pressure and they have some good personnel."
Saturday's contest will be aired live on the American Sports Network (ASN). Locally the game can be seen on MyTV Channel 68 in Birmingham. Fans may also listen on the Blazer IMG Sports Network with David Crane (play-by-play), Steve Irvine (analyst) and Sam Miller (sideline reporter) on the call.
