BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB women's soccer's Mary Catherine Combs and Morgan Key-Adams were named to the All-Conference USA Second Team, while Amy Brewer was named to the All-Freshman team, the league office announced Tuesday.
Combs started all 17 matches at defense this season. She was a key contributor to UAB's backline, which went 363:24 minutes without surrendering a goal earlier this season. The streak was the Blazers' longest amount of time without allowing a goal since 2007 when UAB held its opponents scoreless for 374:16 minutes. Combs tallied the second assist of her career in a 5-0 victory against UTSA on Sept. 26. She ended her career on Oct. 30, marking her 70th appearance and bringing her four-tally to more than 6,200 minutes of playing time.
Sophomore midfielder Key-Adams started every match she played in this season, missing just one game due to injury earlier in the year. She recorded three goals, two of which were game winners, tying her for third on the team with junior Paige Hanks. She netted both of UAB's goals in the 2-0 victory over UTEP, finding the back of the net just six minutes into the match. The two-goal performance was her first multi-goal game of her career. Key-Adams led the team in shot percentage, placing 16 of her 21 shots on goal and finished the season with three goals and one assist.
Brewer made 15 consecutive starts in the Blazer midfield, appearing in 16 of the team's 17 matches in her first year with the program. She led all freshmen on the team with 16 shots, eight of which were on frame. Brewer made her first collegiate start on Aug. 31 at No. 21 Duke and tallied her first goal in a 5-0 victory against UTSA on Sept. 26 at West Campus Field. She finished the season with two points and more than 1,300 minutes of playing time.
UAB concluded its season on Oct. 30 against Rice, falling 2-0, and finished the year 5-10-2 and in 2-5-2 in conference action.
