BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior football cornerback Jimmy Jean was named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Monday. The Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes student-athletes who excel on and off their respective fields of competition.
Jean is in his second season with the program and has played in every game for the Blazers, starting in 21 of the 23 contests thus far in his career. He was the only player to start every game on the defensive side of the ball last season and has started at corner in nine of 11 games this year.
The Pompano Beach, Fla. native has 33 tackles this season and recorded the first interception of the 2014 slate three weeks ago against Louisiana Tech. He also has two fumble recoveries this season. Off the field, Jean has maintained a 3.6 GPA majoring in communication management and was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor roll following the 2013 campaign.
Jean and the Blazers close the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to try and reach six wins and earn bowl eligibility.
