BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Paul Dunne was just the third player in UAB men's golf history to be selected to participate in the Palmer Cup, joining former Blazers Andrew Laurence (1997) and Graeme McDowell (2000, 2001).
Dunne, who was one of 10 collegiate players selected to represent Team Europe, earned a win in his singles match against Alabama sophomore Robby Shelton on the final day of competition to help Team Europe to an 18.5-11.5 win over Team USA.
The Greystones, Ireland native had one of the best seasons in program history in 2013-14, becoming the fifth Blazer to earn All-America accolades. In addition, he was named to the 2014 All-Conference USA First Team and 2014 Division I PING All-Southeast Region Team.
Dunne was also recognized as the 2014 Conference USA Golfer of the Year. He excels in the classroom, as well, becoming the second Academic All-American in UAB men's golf history.
The Fall Palmer Cup rankings for the 2014-15 season were released on Wednesday. The top six golfers from the final ranking in the Spring from both the United States and Europe shall be among the 10 individuals selected to compete in the Palmer Cup at Rich Harvest Farms, June 12-14.
In the first rankings, Dunne was No. 20 among those eligible for Team Europe. He earned a top 10 finish at the Shoal Creek Invitational after taking seventh individually and has finished in the top 20 three times.
