UAB Women's Basketball Welcomes Lipscomb In Home Opener

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will host Lipscomb in its home opener on Wednesday night. The Blazers and Lady Bisons are set to tip off at 7 p.m. CT in Bartow Arena.
This will be the second-straight season that UAB has hosted Lipscomb (1-1) in its home opener. Last season, the Blazers defeated the Lady Bisons, 70-54, to spark a 5-0 start at home for UAB.

Blazer Bits
- UAB and Lipscomb are meeting for the third time overall and the second time in two seasons. The two teams played on Nov. 12, 2013 in Bartow a year ago, which also served as the home opener for the Blazers.
- The Blazers opened the 2014-15 season against Florida State in Tallahassee, falling the to Seminoles, 92-62.
- Junior Dy'man Webb has had a great start to the season, scoring a career-high 13 points to lead the Blazers at Florida State. She also posted a double-double in the exhibition game against Truman State.
- Entering Wednesday's contest, UAB has won its last three home openers dating back to the 2010-11 season. The team topped Lipscomb, 70-54, in 2013-14, Austin Peay, 72-54, in 2012-13 and SE Missouri State, 64-41, in the 2011-12 season.
- UAB had 12 of its 14 eligible players appeare in the opening game against Florida State, including all seven newcomers.
UAB Notes
Series
This will be just the third meeting between UAB and Lipscomb in series history with the Blazers owning a 2-0 advantage. The teams first met on Nov. 24, 2007 in a neutral site game, with UAB taking the win, 67-51. The teams met last season on Nov. 12, 2013, which served as the home opener for the Blazers. UAB won that game, 70-54 to remain undefeated against the Lady Bisons.
Scouting Lipscomb
Lipscomb (1-1) has split its first two games of the season heading into Wednesday's game. The Lady Bisons began the season with a win over Georgia Southern, 80-74, before falling to Wright State, 79-66 on Sunday. Danay Fothergill leads Lipscomb with 18.0 points per game and Sara Bliss is adding 17.5 points per game so far this season. Ashley Southern led the Lady Bisons with 22 double-doubles in 2013-14, and she is averaging 8.5 points per game and a team-high 8.0 rebounds per game thus far.
Webb Developing
Junior Dy'man Webb has already stepped up for the Blazers in the 2014-15 season. She posted a career-high 13 points at Florida State and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Her performance came just a week after she recorded a double-double in the exhibition game for the Blazers.
Newcomers Getting In The Action
All seven of UAB's newcomers made an appearance in the season opener at Florida State, totaling 98 of the 200 minutes played for the Blazers. Redshirt freshman Kasey Drayton had a solid debut, hitting three 3-pointers to total nine points in 24 minutes played. Senior Janae Smith added eight points and was a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Freshman T'erra Lewis added six points in her first game and led the team with three assists, while fellow freshman Whytney Singleton had three points and a steal.
