The bye week comes as UAB prepares for its final two games of the regular season -- a home matchup against No. 21 Marshall on Nov. 22 and a road contest at Southern Miss on Nov. 29. On Tuesday, head coach Bill Clark and his team practiced for nearly two hours in shorts and shoulder pads at the UAB practice field.
"For us, you might see us a little more laid back than our normal style of practice," Clark said. "I think sometimes you need that. They need to come out and take off the gas so we can come back real explosive the next two weeks."
During game weeks, Clark and his staff spend time with the team going through preparations and the game plan for the next opponent. According to Clark, UAB is busy preparing for the homestretch of the season, but he and his staff are also using this time to get back to fundamentals.
"No. 1 for us is we have to get healed up," Clark said. "I think we always want to come back to fundamentals. Sometimes you gloss over those things trying to get a game plan in. There's so much out there when you start preparing for an opponent, and then you look up and we don't tackle or do the fundamentals. I think we do a good job of it, but it is good to get back and do those kinds of things."
UAB hosts the Thundering Herd on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. CT. For more information on the UAB football team, follow the Blazers on Twitter @UAB_Football. For more on all Blazer sports teams, follow @UABAthletics.
