BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features sophomore Alex Lee, a native of Flowery Branch, Ga. Below Lee talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“I've always wanted to try swimming or lacrosse. They're just two completely different sports from what I'm used to playing, so it would be interesting to try.”
What are your plans after you finish up at UAB?
“Since I'm majoring in nursing, I would love to be a travel nurse for a few years and be able to experience different cities and lifestyles.”
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“There are so many places I would love to travel to, but my number one place right now would have to be Italy because it would awesome to ride in a gondola in Venice and visit the history in Rome. “
What is one thing people do not know about you?
“Swedish was actually my first language. I lived there for a year and a half, and when my family and I moved back to the states, my mom would have to translate everything to me. I was only 2 years old at the time but it's still cool to be able to say that I lived there before and that English wasn't my first language.”
What is your favorite thing about living in Birmingham?
“There's so much to do in Birmingham. Being able to go around and explore new places is just so cool. You are never bored here that's for sure.”
The team won 11 games last year and advanced to the C-USA tournament for the first time since 2009, talk about how the success and turnaround from last year helps the team in moving forward this year?
“Our success from last year just proves to us that if we work hard and keep fighting we will reach our goal of not just making the tournament, but winning it all this year. We have the talent and the ability to, we just have to have the mindset that we are going to be champions and nothing will get in the way of that.”
