BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB men’s golf team continues its fall season at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, just down the road at the Old Overton Country Club in Vestavia Hills, Ala. The tournament will begin on Monday, Oct. 6 and end on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the par 70, 7,209-yard course.
The Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate brings some of the top teams in the country to the 12-team field. Along with UAB, the field will include tournament-host and defending national champion Alabama, Florida State, Mississippi State, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Arkansas, UNLV, Charlotte and UTSA.
The Blazers enter this week’s tournament after two-straight third place finishes. Individually, three players have finished in the top-10 and two in the top-5. Most recently, freshman Lee Hodges and senior Paul Dunne shot under-par at the Shoal Creek Invitational to finish third and seventh, respectively.
UAB will look to improve on its third-place finish at the 2013 Jerry Pate Intercollegiate. The Blazers finished behind Alabama who won with a 829 (-11) and Texas A&M runner-up 845 (+5). UAB’s Wilson McDonald won the individual medalist honors.
Murray will send out the same lineup as the last two tournaments with Hodges, Dunne, juniors Martin Rohwer and Will Cannon and redshirt freshman Taylor McCullum. Hodges has had back-to-back top-3 finishes and leads the Blazers with a 71.1 stroke average.
UAB will play two rounds on Monday with the final 18-holes on Tuesday at the Old Overton Country Club. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com
