BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features junior Angelica Jimenez, a native of Pembroke Pines, Fla. Below Jimenez talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
What will you miss most about UAB?
“My girls. Playing college soccer is a privilege most people do not get to experience, but what makes it even more worthwhile is the group of girls you get to grind it out with. These girls have become sisters to me and not seeing them day in and day out is going to be a huge bummer. I’ll miss this team more than anything.”
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“I would do gymnastics, jiu jitsu or bouldering.”
What are your plans after you finish up at UAB?
“A master’s program in public health is a solid move I’d like to get into. I’m not sure if I’ll have to head home to south Florida after undergrad at UAB, but I know I’ll be making it out to the west coast at some point, preferably to Oregon. The ultimate goal is to join a medical outreach program.”
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
“That would be credits to Mami and Papi.”
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“I want to see it all. There are grounds far and wide to be seen and cultures to be submerged in. I don’t have a go to travel spot in mind though if I could make it anywhere. I just want to get out there and explore. To name a few countries off the top of my head I’d go with New Zealand, Thailand and Brazil.”
What is your favorite thing about living in Birmingham?
“This question is cake. On my first visit I was driving through Birmingham and I immediately fell in love with the hills and all the greenery. Coming from south Florida, I’ve been familiar with flat lands for the majority of my days and just that small change was enough to get me hooked. All of the outdoor activities there are to get into in Birmingham is easily my favorite thing about living here.
