BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features sophomore Sharon Osterbind, a native of Jacksonville, Ala. Below Osterbind talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“If I did not play soccer I would play basketball. I have always loved it and played throughout high school. Luckily, UAB has a great intramural program so I still get to play some.”
What will you miss most about UAB?
“I will miss my teammates the most and all of us being together in the same area. My team is my second family and I know we will all keep in touch, but not being able to just walk next door and be with them will be an adjustment I am not looking forward to.”
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
“My high school basketball coach Ryan Chambless has had the biggest influence on my career. He taught me how to really compete and pushed me throughout my high school career to become not only a better athlete, but a harder worker, and stressed the importance of giving it all for your teammates and the school you represent. Even though I did not continue with basketball in college, coach Chambless has continued to support and encourage me like he did when I played for him.”
What are your plans after you finish up at UAB?
“I am pre-med, so my plans after I finish up at UAB are to go on to medical school. I am not positive on what kind of doctor I want to be yet, but I am leaning toward something in pediatrics.”
