BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features freshman Meredith Schertzinger, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. Below Schertzinger talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
What is one thing people do not know about you?
“One thing people don’t know about me is that I am obsessed with traveling. I would pack up my bags and travel around the world in a heartbeat if I could. I hope one day I will be able to explore and discover the wonders of the world, learning from all the many people I meet along the way.”
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“If I could travel anywhere in the world I would go to Peru to hike Machu Picchu and watch the sunrise from the peak. I would then do service work in the rural villages within the Sacred Valley and hopefully continue to travel throughout South America doing service and exploring the many wonders that lie within it.”
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“If I did not play soccer I would surf. This past summer I learned to surf in Australia and really enjoyed it. I love spending time at the beach, so to be able to compete in a sport that allows me to continually be in the ocean would be amazing.”
What are your plans after you finish up at UAB?
“After my career at UAB I hope to attend graduate school to further my studies in biology, particularly in genetic research in relations to genetics. I would also love to go to graduate school near the college my brothers commit to for lacrosse so I can watch them play their next four years.”
