BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features sophomore Ann Schmidt, a native of Flowery Branch, Ga. Below Schmidt talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“If I did not play soccer I would probably play volleyball. I played volleyball in middle and some in high school. I really enjoyed it, but when in it came down to it, I had to pick one sport. Now I just play volleyball for fun.”
What are your plans after you finish up at UAB?
“My plan after UAB right now is to find a job in business marketing. I haven't quite figured exactly what that will be yet but I am working on it.”
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
“My mom has definitely been the biggest influence in my career. She was the one taking me to practice when I was 8 years old and telling me what I needed to work on. She was also the one who would come out in the backyard and play soccer with my sister and me. She always made soccer fun and taught me so much about the game.”
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“If I could travel anywhere, I would have to say it would be Europe. I have never been and it has always seemed intriguing. One of the main reasons of going there would be to see a professional men's team play. I would love to be a part of the European crowd. They absolutely love their fútbol.”
What is your favorite thing about living in Birmingham?
“Birmingham is a great place to live. I don't think I could have one favorite thing about living here. There are always new things to do everyday.”
