Barker Earns UAB Student-Athlete Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Shelby Barker of the UAB track and field team is the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week, as announced on Wednesday. The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week recognizes Blazer student-athletes who standout on and off their respective fields of competition.
In the UAB track and field team’s first event of the indoor season, the Birmingham-Southern Ice Breaker, Barker tied for first place in the high jump. Barker won the event with a 1.65-meter leap.
Off the track, the Roswell, Ga. native excels, as well. A health care management major, Barker owns a 3.81 cumulative GPA. She has earned Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and Academic Medal accolades each of the past two years for her efforts in the classroom.
Barker and the UAB track and field team gets back on the track this weekend as they host the UAB Blazer Invitational. The two-day event will take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex from Friday, Jan. 10 – Saturday, Jan. 11.
