NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Elinor Kirk broke the UAB all-time record for the indoor mile run and Neal Tisher broke a facility record and her own UAB all-time mark in the pole vault to lead the UAB track and field team to completion of the Vanderbilt Indoor Invite on Saturday.
Just two weeks after breaking UAB’s all-time record in the 3,000-meter run, Kirk broke the 1-mile run record on Saturday by four seconds at the Vanderbilt Student Recreation Center. The graduate student from Swansea, Wales, ran a 4:39.08 to win the 1-mile run competition, breaking the facility record and her own UAB all-time record of 4:43.73.
Tisher finished with a leap of 13-1 ½ (4.00m) to break her own UAB record of 12-7 ½ (3.85m) which she set back in December at the Birmingham Southern Icebreaker. Tisher’s mark Saturday night also broke a facility record as she finished tied for first in the event.
In the 60-meter dash group A, Shakima Knox finished second with a run of 7.55 seconds, which also broke a facility record. She also competed in the 200-meter dash and finished 15th with a 25.00 run.
In the 60-meter dash group B, Alexis Bates finished sixth with a 7.71-second run. Angel Watson was UAB’s top finisher in the 200-meter dash with a 24.66-second run good enough for eighth place, while Autumnn Burnett finished 33rd, Shelby Barker 40th and Akira McSwain 41st.
Kyana White was UAB’s top finisher in the 400-meter dash with a 10th place finish at 57.16, while Kandiss Briggs came in 26th with a 59.20 and Fanta Diabate 33rd with a 64.14.
Four Blazers ran in the 800-meter run finals as Jenna Wesley finished 13th with a 2:17.78. Kara Woods came in 26th with a 2:37.27.
Joining Kirk in the 1-mile run were Sarah Livett and Lauren Scott. Livett finished 12th with a 5:02.90, while Scott finished 19th with a 5:08.29.
