Second Annual Student-Athlete Thank-A-Thon Underway

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The second annual student-athlete thank-a-thon is being held this week, Jan. 13-17, in the Blazer Boosters office. Nearly 100 UAB student-athletes have volunteered their time to call every 2013 Blazer Boosters member to personally thank them for providing the financial support necessary for them to compete in their sport while earning a first class education.
“It is great to see our student-athletes embrace this effort again this year. Each of these young men and women does an outstanding job of showing Blazer Boosters members how much their financial support means,” Assistant Athletic Director for Development Brad Hardekopf said. “We hope our 2013 members enjoy hearing a heart-felt thank you from the student-athletes in which their contribution touches.”
UAB Athletics incurs over $6.5 million in scholarship costs and Blazer Boosters members help offset these costs with their annual contributions. Relative to the investment of Blazer Boosters members, 182 UAB student-athletes recorded above a 3.0 GPA this past semester, with 32 of these student-athletes achieving a perfect 4.0. All combined Blazer student-athletes merited a 2.92 GPA for the fall semester.
The 2014 giving year is underway and Blazer fans have an opportunity to Be the Difference in the lives of our student-athletes by becoming a 2014 Blazer Boosters member. A Blazer Boosters membership begins at $100 with payment plans available.
