BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's soccer team opens Conference USA play this weekend with two matches on the road. First, the Blazers will take on Middle Tennessee State on Friday night. On Sunday, UAB will face Marshall in Huntington, W.V.
This weekend's matches will mark the squad's fourth and fifth consecutive game away from the friendly confines of West Campus Field.
Scoring In Bunches
The UAB women's soccer team already has scored the most goals it has in a single season since 2010. UAB has tallied 25 goals through nine matches, for an average of 2.78 goals per game.
The Blazers rank third in Conference USA in goals per game and total goals. In addition, the squad ranks third in the conference in assists per game (2.00) and total assists (18).
UAB has scored at least three goals in a single game on six occasions in 2013. That marks the most matches with at least three goals scored since 2005. Also, the team only had four games in the last two years with at least three goals scored.
Ranked Seventh In Central Region
The UAB women's soccer team is ranked seventh in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Central Region Poll, as announced on Tuesday, Sept. 25. This marks the team's highest appearance in the regional rankings this season.
The Blazers are off to one of their best starts in program history. UAB is 7-2-0 through nine games, matching the most wins through nine matches in program history. The 1996 and 2003 squads also had seven victories in its first nine games.
