ORANGEBURG, S.C. ----- The UAB women’s soccer team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 2-0 victory over Francis Marion on Friday night. Kasey Johnson and Erin Pincombe each recorded a goal for the Blazers with Angelica Jimenez picking up her second win of the season in net.
“We played well tonight,” said head coach Harold Warren. “We held possessions well and were able to get off to a quick start.”
Johnson put the Blazers on the board in the 11th minute, connecting on a pass from Abby Phillips. In the 85th minute, Pincombe notched her first goal of the season to give the Green and Gold some breathing room.
“In the second half, we got a little too comfortable and gave them some opportunities to tie the game but we were able to hold them off,” said Warren.
Jimenez earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season, making five saves in the victory. The Blazers out-shot Francis Marion 19-10
“Sunday was a tough loss but they learned from that game and moved on,” added Warren. “We focused on tonight and were able to get a win.”
Six different Blazers recorded a shot on the night with Johnson, Phillips, Sam Bradford and Johanna Liney leading the way with two each.
UAB will be back in action Sunday morning, taking on Sleep Inn Tournament host South Carolina State at 10 a.m. CT.
