BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Junior Ryan Prinzing of the UAB baseball team was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday.
Prinzing, a native of Oswego, Ill., becomes the first UAB baseball player in program history to be named an Academic All-America honoree.
In his third year as a Blazer, Prinzing has continued to rack up the academic honors. Earlier this season he earned Capital One Academic All-District and earned a spot on the Conference USA All-Academic squad.
The designated hitter maintained a 3.62 GPA as a management major and is a three-time Dean's List and C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.
At the plate, Prinzing was a force in the middle of the Blazer lineup all season long. He hit a team-best .335, ranking third in the conference and also topped the team in runs scored (38), homers (3) and on-base percentage (.441). Prinzing's on-base percentage was second highest in the league.
Prinzing hit even better in league play, collecting a .352 average, slugging .500, reaching base at a .464 clip, scoring 20 runs, knocking in 22 and recording 31 hits. He ranked in the top-10 in C-USA in all six statistical categories listed.
