BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB baseball team outhit Jacksonville State, but the Gamecocks scored all its runs from the second through fourth frames to defeat the Blazers, 8-2, on Wednesday night at Rudy Abbot Field.

The Blazers pounded out 10 base knocks as seven of nine starters posted at least one hit. Tanner Bryant and Tyler Mims led the Green and Gold with two hits each, while Mims and Clark each knocked in a run.
Alex Luna, who pitched better than his final numbers indicated, was tagged with the loss, dropping to 0-2 on the season. The righty went 3.1 innings giving up five earned runs off six hits.
“I thought Alex was great, but he kind of ran of gas at the end. It was promising to see him pitch well,” head coach Brian Shoop said.

JSU would add two more runs in the third, one earned, before breaking the game open in the last of the fourth, batting around en route to scoring five runs on four hits.
UAB relieving corps of Jacob German, Adam Lau and Chase Davis pitched well out of the bullpen. The trio surrendered only one run over the final 4.2 innings. Davis and Lau only allowed an infield single over the final three frames.

Tony Urban (1-0) earned the victory for the Gamecocks, working the first three frames, allowing one earned run on five hits.
