UAB vs. South Alabama Final Box
The Blazers fall to 15-7 on the year while the Jaguars improve to 24-5.
On the day, UAB came out with five hits and no errors, but were unable to bring the runs home.
In the circle, juniors Leigh Streetman and Lannah Campbell each threw three innings apiece. Streetman (7-4) was credited with the loss after giving up three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Campbell came in during the fourth frame and only allowed one hit in 10 batters faced.
For South Alabama, pitcher Hannah Campbell (11-5) was credited with the win, throwing a complete game and striking out seven.
The Jaguars scored their three runs by a pair of homers over right field in the top of the third inning.
In the field, freshman Caitlin Attfield was solid in the shortstop position, with two putouts and four assists. In the bottom of the second inning, Attfield managed to stop a ball that tipped off senior third baseman Kate Armstrong's glove, and got up before fielding it cleanly to junior first baseman Megan McGrath for the first out.
For the third out in the bottom of the fifth inning, Attfield dove on a ball that was hit over Campbell's head, and managed to land on the bag at second to get the lead runner out.
Up next, UAB resumes the Conference USA schedule, traveling to Memphis, Tenn., to take on Memphis on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch for both games is set for 1 p.m. CT. Follow @UABSoftball on Twitter for in-game updates.
