Men's Tennis Team Edged By Tulane, 4-3

NEW ORLEANS ----- The UAB men's tennis team dropped the doubles point and then split singles with Tulane, but it wasn't enough Saturday as the Green Wave claimed a 4-3 victory and halted the Blazers' eight-match win streak.
UAB (10-7, 1-1 Conference USA) lost the hard-fought match with the Green Wave (6-4, 2-1) after defeating Southern Miss, 4-3, Friday in Hattiesburg.
Tulane grabbed the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions. The Blazers captured victories at the No. 1, 2 and 4 spots in singles.
Senior David Zimmerman won for the ninth consecutive time in singles as he defeated the Green Wave's Idan Mark, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 1 position. Rafael Rondino was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at No. 2 over Joe Young with Chris Helliar rallying for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles over Tulane's Rodrigo Rappaccioli. The win was the 10th in a row for Helliar and improved the junior's singles record in dual matches to 13-4.
Tulane got wins at the No. 3, 5 and 6 singles positions. Tom Puetz fell to Dominik Koepfer at No. 3, Alex Van Cott downed UAB freshman Luiz Felipe Pinto at No. 5 and Adam Bernstein won over the Blazers' Lucas Dirube at No. 6.
UAB will be back in action, Monday, March 11 when the Blazers take on Winthrop at George Ward Tennis Center. The match is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. CT.
