BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s basketball team faces Southern Miss for the second time this season when the Blazers travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to meet the Golden Eagles on Sunday.
Tip is set for 2 p.m. CT at USM’s Reed Green Coliseum.

The Green and Gold had multiple chances in the final four seconds to tie or take the lead, but could not overcome a 23-percent shooting performance.

>> Both UAB and Southern Miss enter Sunday’s contest on a losing skid. The Blazers have dropped two out of their last three games, while USM has lost five-straight on the year.
Blazers Hope For Sunday Fortune
>> UAB is 6-2 on the season in Sunday afternoon games, including a 5-1 mark in Conference USA matchups. The Blazers are just 1-6 in Thursday evening contests, holding a 1-5 record in mid-week league games.
Good Guard Matchup
>> Thursday’s game features two of the top guards in Conference USA with USM’s Jamierra Faulkner and UAB’s Amber Jones. Faulkner averages 18.6 points per contest, while Jones scores a team-high 13.4 ppg. Faulkner scored 26 points against the Blazers in the last meeting on Jan. 31.

>> Amber Jones, Karisma Chapman and Ashley Grimes all average in double figures this season to lead UAB. Jones paces all Blazers with 13.4 points per game, while Grimes adds 13.3 ppg and Chapman scores 12.3 ppg.
Blazers Change Starting Five
>> UAB has changed its starting five in the last five games. Taking the place of usual starter Khalilah Watson has been freshman Essence Baucom. Baucom averages just 11.9 minutes per contest.
Kleist Starts Every Game
>> One consistency in the UAB starting five this season has been senior Michaelea Kleist. The Mason, Ohio native is the only Blazer to start every game (25), averaging 27.4 minutes per contest.
Jones, Watson Games Played
>> Amber Jones and Khalilah Watson have moved into the top-10 in UAB history in games played. Jones has seen action in 120 games in her career, while Watson has played in 119.
Single-Digit Turnovers
>> With UAB’s six turnovers committed against UTEP, the Blazers now account for the top three fewest turnover games in Conference USA history. UAB committed a league record low five against Tulsa on Feb. 12, 2009 before six miscues against Chattanooga on Nov. 11, 2011. The Blazers are currently second in the C-USA in turnover margin with a +5.2 advantage.

>> With 1,447 points in her career, senior Amber Jones is closing in on UAB’s all-time scoring list. Jones needs just 24 points to break into the top-10 chart.
