BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- UAB women’s basketball student-athletes headed to Somerby at St. Vincent’s last Friday evening to take part in the annual fall fun festival. The festival gave the Blazers a great opportunity to interact with residents of the retirement community in downtown Birmingham.
Team members participated in and worked game stations including ring toss, cake walks and Needle in the Haystack. A few of the more artistic athletes helped with face painting for the many children in attendance at the event as well.
“We embrace any opportunity to get involved with the Birmingham community and allow our student-athletes a chance to enjoy spending time with people who enjoy supporting our program,” head coach Randy Norton said.
The Blazers have been active in the community this fall and this event gave them a great chance to unwind before their busy non-conference schedule begins.
“The fall festival was a very humbling experience and we had a lot of fun interacting with the residents and children as well," junior point guard Miranda Burroughs said.
The Blazers take the court for their final exhibition game against West Florida Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in Bartow Arena.
