BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The No. 10 UAB men's soccer team will hit the road to face New Mexico on Wednesday, Oct. 30. The Conference USA tilt is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. CT in Albuquerque, N.M.
Wednesday night's matchup pits two of the top-three teams in the 10-team conference. Both UAB and New Mexico own a 4-1-1 mark in league play, good enough for 13 points each, and are tied for second place.
Comeback Kids
In each of its last two matches, UAB has rallied to record victories. Against Tulsa on Saturday, Oct. 19, UAB trailed at halftime for the first time all season. After knotting the score in the 61st minute, senior midfielder Moses Adeniran tallied the game-winning goal with only seven minutes remaining in the match.
In its latest game, UAB once again found itself in an early hole. The Blazers recorded two goals in the final 11 minutes to record a 2-1 victory against the College of Charleston on Friday, Oct. 25. Sophomore forward Freddy Ruiz, the team's leading scorer, registered the game-winner in UAB's final non-conference match of the 2013 regular season.
About New Mexico
New Mexico enters Wednesday night's matchup with an 8-4-2 overall mark. Currently, the Lobos are tied with UAB for second place in Conference USA with a 4-1-1 record in conference play.
In its latest match, New Mexico suffered a 1-0 overtime setback on the road to Conference USA foe South Carolina. It marked the squad's first loss in league action this season and was its first setback since Friday, Sept. 27.
Freshman forward Niko Hansen leads the Lobos in scoring in 2013, as he has registered 15 points on six goals and three assists. Senior goalkeeper Michael Lisch has started every match for New Mexico in goal this season. He holds a 0.76 goals allowed average, which ranks first in Conference USA.
Wednesday's game marks the second all-time meeting between the two programs. Last sea­son, UAB suffered a 2-0 loss at New Mexico in the Lobos' home opener.
