No. 14 Purdue Defeats Blazers In Straight Sets

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. ---- The 14th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers defeated the UAB volleyball team in straight sets on Friday night, 3-0 (17-25, 13-25, 11-25) at the Mackey Arena in the Blazers’ second match of the day at the Active Ankle Challenge.
UAB (5-8) returns to the court on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CT to take on Jacksonville State to round out tournament action.
Offensively, the Blazers were unable to match the Boilermakers’ attack, as Purdue (8-2) hit .300 (43k-12e-100ta) as a team.
For the second straight game, Sam Serley topped UAB in kills, posting six in the loss. Sam Skinner and Kate Morrell each chipped in with three kills apiece as outside hitters.
Rachel Fairbanks was a bright spot in the defeat, posting a team-best 14 digs and has corralled 35 through two matches of the tournament.
Purdue was led by Ariel Turner’s 15 kills, while Anna Drewry connected for 10 kills of her own.
Setter Rachel Davis dished out 32 assists and totaled 16 digs in the victory for the tournament-host Boilermakers.
