BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Keith DePew of the UAB baseball team was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV team for the second consecutive year. The senior second baseman has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.92 as a high school education and history major.
DePew, a native of Trussville, Ala., who was honored this past week as the UAB senior male student-athlete with the highest GPA, also garnered all-district academic honors during his junior campaign.
The consummate student-athlete, DePew is a five-time UAB Presidential Honor winner, been named to the Dean's List twice, along with being a four-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal winner.
On the diamond, DePew is hitting at a .261 clip with 13 RBI and ranks in the top 10 in school history in sacrifice bunts. For his career, DePew has made only four errors in 49 C-USA games played.
To be eligible for academic all-district nomination, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on a scale of 4.0, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his current institution. The nominees are then voted on by the members of CoSIDA.
