Blazer Duo Named To Academic All-District Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Seniors Rhiannon Johns and Kristina Vaughn have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District IV track and field/cross country first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The award marks the third of her career for Johns and first time for Vaughn.
Johns, a native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, boasts a 4.0 GPA in mathematics. Last season, she was a Capital One Academic All-America, and the year before that was a 2010 USTFCCCA All-Academic team and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV track and field/cross country team selection.
The distance runner is a three-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient and C-USA Honor Roll selection. During the 2011 cross country season, she placed 9th of 92 at the C-USA Championships and finished 27th of 191 at NCAA South Regional.
Vaughn owns a 4.0 GPA in biology. The Madison, Ala. native is a four-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal and a two-time C-USA All-Academic Team selection
On the track, she broke UAB’s 3,000m steeplechase record (10:30.25) at the Stanford Invite, a time that ranks eighth in the South Region.
In addition, she anchored the DMR team that placed second at C-USA Indoor Championships with a new school record time of 11:37.00. She placed 1st in the 3,000m Steeplechase (10:35.81) at the C-USA Outdoor Championship to earn All-C-USA first team honors.
