Game one will resume on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CT, with game two slated to begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first game.
Play was halted with UAB's John Frost at the plate in the top of the seventh with the bases empty and no outs.
Rice led 2-0 entering the bottom of the third, when the Owls crossed home five times in the inning to hold a commanding 7-0 advantage. The Owls collected six hits in the frame led by a RBI double from J.T. Chargois and two-run two-bagger by Michael Ratteree.
A half inning later, the Blazers put the heat on Rice starter Matthew Reckling. Ivan De Jesus was plunked by a pitch with one down to get the ball rolling. Ryan Ussery followed by dunking a hit into left, which allowed De Jesus to race home, thanks to an outfield throwing error.
UAB catcher Jacob German knocked in the Blazers second run with a single to left. It looked like the Green and Gold would add some more with the bases loaded, two outs and John Frost at the plate. The first baseman roped what looked a sure-fire extra-base hit into the right-center field gap, but centerfielder Michael Fuda raced down the fly ball and hauled in the catch to end the threat.
Right-hander Alex Luna is currently the pitcher for UAB, entering the game for starter Michael Busby in the sixth.
