Belles & Whistles Luncheon Scheduled for April 25

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB Athletics Department and the Blazer Women's Athletics Society will hold the Fourth Annual Belles & Whistles Luncheon benefiting athletic scholarships for female student-athletes on Wednesday, April 25.
The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and will be held at the UAB National Alumni Society House.
The keynote speakers will be Fran Braasch, the first Blazers' women's basketball coach and Jenetta (J.J.) Johnson, a former player for Coach Braasch. Current UAB student-athletes will also be in attendance. The emcee for this year's luncheon will be Lenora Pate, a lawyer with Sirote & Permutt, P.C. and a graduate of UAB.
The Blazer Women's Athletics Society is presently seeking table sponsors for this year's luncheon which range from investment levels of $1,200 to $10,000. Tables include seating for eight and table captains have the option to host a student-athlete at their table as one of the eight guests. Individual seats to the event can be purchased for $150.

Renita Rigney and Cindy Godwin are the co-chairs for the 2012 Belles & Whistles Luncheon. They are assisted by the Blazer Women's Athletics Society Advisory Board, which is comprised of women throughout Birmingham who recognize the importance of women's athletics and the potential of outstanding student-athletes.
Since its inception, this event has raised funds for the women's athletics programs and student-athlete scholarships.
UAB Athletics presently sponsors 11 women's sports, consisting of approximately 150 student-athletes for a total of more than $2.5 million annually in scholarship aid. UAB recently added two women's sports - bowling, which began competition in the fall of 2011, and sand volleyball, which began its first season of play this spring. The final home sand volleyball match takes place on April 15, 2012.
