Baseball's De Jesus Earns C-USA Weekly Honor

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- UAB baseball outfielder Ivan De Jesus was named Conference USA Hitter of the Week announced by the league office on Monday.
De Jesus produced an excellent week in the Blazers' lineup, hitting .421 (8-for-19) and registered a .625 slugging percentage. The sophomore collected three multi-hit games in four starts, including a 3-for-5 day in game two against Houston.
For the week, the Puerto Rico native scored twice, knocked in three and had two extra-base hits, featuring a double and his third home run of the season.
The lone game De Jesus did not start, he came off the bench and knocked in a run with a sac fly in the first game of the UH series.
Against the Cougars, De Jesus hit .444 (4-for-9) to help lead UAB to its first three-game sweep of a league opponent since 2007.
De Jesus is the first Blazer baseball player to garner the league's weekly top-hitting award in 2012. The last player to earn C-USA Hitter of the Week for UAB was Patrick Palmeiro on March 7, 2011.
