Blazers Take Part In National Student-Athlete Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- UAB student-athletes recently took park in a variety of activities as part of National Student-Athlete Week (April 2-6).
Here is a summary of the events and community service efforts during the week:
Monday, April 2 - Approximately 125 Glen Iris 5th graders visited UAB and received a tour by student-athletes of Bartow Arena, the Academic Center, weight room, sports medicine and locker rooms. After the tour, the students visited the football practice field and played games and went through drills with football, soccer and track student-athletes.
UAB head coaches Marla Townsend and Garrick McGee took the time to speak to the students about the importance of academics for student-athletes.
Tuesday, April 3 - Spring cleaning at Ronald McDonald House - members of the Blazers' football and women's basketball teams helped at the Ronald McDonald house by cleaning and completing daily tasks.
Wednesday, April 3 - Student-athletes hosted a carnival at the Mini Park on campus. Approximately 400 students and student-athletes ate and played games and interacted with one another. Members of the football staff and academic support services staff also participated in the dunk tank throughout the day.
Thursday, April 5 - Student-athletes visited Children's Hospital and colored with the kids.
Friday, April 6 - Student-athletes supported the sand volleyball team at its match vs. Tulane and enjoyed free pizza and cake for National Student-Athlete Day.
