Baseball Set For Midweek Game At Jax State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB baseball team will travel to Jacksonville, Ala. to play the Jacksonville State Gamecocks at Rudy Abbott Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The two teams will first continue a game that was halted due to inclement weather on Feb. 28. The game will be restarted at 4:30 p.m. CT. The regularly scheduled game for Wednesday is slated to begin roughly 30 minutes following the conclusion of the continuation game.
In that suspended contest, UAB holds a 6-5 edge with one out in the top of the sixth with runners on first and third and Sam Kelley at the plate. In the sixth, UAB has already scored three times to retake the lead.

SCOUTING UAB
The Blazers started off Spring Break by competing in the C.C. Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina at Myrtle Beach, S.C. last weekend. In the three-game tournament, the Blazers finished 1-2 with a victory against Connecticut, before falling to Michigan and the host Chanticleers.
UAB will start lefty David Hayes against the Gamecocks. Hayes has made four total appearances, including two starts. He does not have a decision in 2012 and sports an ERA of 6.48. In 8.2 innings, Hayes has allowed 10 runs (six earned) on 14 hits with six strikeouts and a pair of walks.
At the plate, a pair of outfielders in Ivan De Jesus and Ryan Ussery has been heating up. Over the last 10 games, De Jesus is hitting at a team-best .389 (14-for-36) clip and is 5-for-6 in stolen base attempts.
Ussery, who has only played in seven of the last 10 games is 10-for-29 (.345), which includes four doubles, one homer and a team-high 17 total bases.
SCOUTING JAX STATE
The Gamecocks are on a hot streak, winning their last three ball games over the weekend. JSU defeated LIU Brooklyn, Nebraska-Omaha and Northwestern to round out its Spring Break trip to Florida.
JSU will counter on the mound with a lefty of its own in Casey Antley. On the season, Antley is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA. In four outings, Antley has logged 9.0 innings, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) off 19 hits. He has struck out nine batters, while walking two. For the season, the opposition is hitting .396 against him.
Ben Waldrip has been a power source for the Gamecocks’ lineup. On the year, Waldrip has slugged six homers, drove in 16, while hitting for a .296 batting average.
