Blazers Win Four Straight, Defeat UMKC 3-1

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The UAB softball team won its fourth-straight game, defeating UMKC, 3-1, on Saturday at the University of Kentucky tournament.
The Blazers (15-10) will put their undefeated 4-0 tourney record on the line when they play the winner of today's Kentucky vs. N.C. State game tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Blazers struck first. Whitney Fletcher hit a leadoff home run over the right field wall – her second of the tournament and third of the season.
UAB Pitcher Lannah Campbell (7-4) held the Roos scoreless in her 5.1 innings pitched. She walked just one batter and struck out seven for the win. Leigh Streetman entered the game in the fifth inning and earned her second save of the season.
The Blazers added two runs to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Leadoff batter Kate Armstrong singled to left and Heather Pearson entered the game to pinch run. Amy Dennis put down a sacrifice bunt to advance Pearson to second. Maegan Hornsby laced a triple to right center, scoring Pearson. In the next at bat, Tiffany Smith hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Hornsby.
UMKC (10-10) avoided a shutout thanks to a home run in the top of the seventh inning off the bat of Megan Ussary to left field.
Cinda Ramos (7-4) pitched all six innings and was tagged with the loss. She allowed three earned runs and two walks, and failed to strike out a UAB batter.
