UAB Set For Kentucky Tournament

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The UAB softball team continues its road swing with five games at the University of Kentucky tournament this weekend. The Blazers kick off tournament play Friday with a 1 p.m. ET matchup with UMKC.
The competition includes Kentucky, NC State and UMKC for a four-team three-day tournament. The teams will all face one another once before being seeded for a mini-tournament over the final four games of the weekend.
All three weekend opponents are first-time opponents for UAB.
The Blazers (11-10, 3-0 C-USA) have gone 6-4 in their last 10 games. UAB dropped a midweek contest with a score of 1-0 to South Alabama at home on Wednesday.
Senior catcher Mandy Lowman leads the Blazers with a .426 batting average, 23 hits, 15 RBI and five home runs. Senior shortstop Catherine Crawford is batting .310 and is UAB’s leader in runs (14) and triples (4), while designated player Kristen McGrath is hitting .316 with five long balls.
The Blazer pitching staff owns a 2.51 ERA. Sophomore lefty Lannah Campbell (5-4) owns the team-low ERA of 1.32. In 53.0 innings pitched, Campbell has allowed just 10 earned runs, while striking out a team-best 63 batters and only walking eight.

Scouting UMKC
The Roos (10-7, 1-2 Summit League) went 1-2 against South Dakota last weekend in their conference-opening series.
Senior Kaelene Curry leads the team offensively, batting .412 with a team-high 12 runs and 21 hits.
Freshman pitcher Cinda Ramos is 7-2 in eight starts with a team-low 1.62 ERA. Junior Deanna Friese (3-5) leads the squad with 71 strikeouts, pitching 63.2 innings with a 2.86 ERA.
Scouting Kentucky

Junior Kara Dill has started all 22 games and is batting .432 with a team-best 17 runs and 32 hits.
Pitcher Lauren Cumbess (2-3) leads the Wildcats with a 2.42 ERA. Senior Chanda Bell (5-4) has pitched a team-high 49 strike outs in 45.2 innings.
Scouting NC State
The Wolfpack (12-13, 0-3 ACC) is 6-4 in its last 10 games, despite dropping three games to Florida State last weekend.
Renada Davis is batting a team-best .333 and Bethaney Wells leads the squad with five doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI.
Emily Weiman has made 18 appearances in the circle with seven wins. She’s pitched 112 strikeouts and allowed just 31 earned runs in 101.0 innings.
