Amber Jones Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB junior guard Amber Jones was announced Thursday as one of five players on the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic Team for women's basketball.
Jones was selected among nominees from throughout the league. In order to be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must hold a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key reserve for their team and be of at least sophomore academic standing.
Jones more than meets those qualifications, carrying a 3.62 GPA in UAB's exercise science program. She earned a spot on the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her first two seasons and was a recipient of the league's Academic Medal last year. A three-time member of UAB's Dean's List, she has also been inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.
On the court, the Town Creek, Ala., product leads UAB in scoring at 13.5 points per game and is tied for the team-lead in assists with 3.0 per contest. She ranks fourth in C-USA in assist-to-turnover ratio during league play at 1.4 to 1. Jones also checks in at sixth in the league in 3-point shooting at 32.2 percent and eighth in steals at 2.2 per game.
Jones, who has scored double figures 19 times this season, became the 25th 1,000-point scorer in UAB women's basketball history earlier this year. She is just the 13th player in program history to reach the mark before her senior season.
Jones' selection marks the fourth consecutive year UAB has had a player selected to the All-Academic team, following on the heels of former Blazer Amanda Peterson, who was named to the team each of the previous three seasons.
