ALL-TIME SERIES
Jacksonville State owns a slight edge in the all-time series, 26-25. The Blazers took three of four against the Gamecocks in 2011.
SCOUTING UAB
UAB finished last week a perfect 4-0 with a midweek win at Alabama State before sweeping a three-game series at home against Ball State, which featured two walk-off wins. On the season, four of UAB's five victories have been by one run.
The Blazers captured their home opener in style on Friday. Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the ninth, UAB scored four runs, capped off by Tanner Bryant's RBI single for the game winner.
In Saturday's victory vs. the Cardinals, Patrick Palmeiro roped a walk-off RBI triple in the last of the 12th to claim the 1-0 win. Palmeiro has been swinging a hot bat, as he hit .462 (6-for-13) in the Ball State series with four of his six hits going for extra bases.
The Blazers received tremendous starting pitching in all four starts during the week. The quartet of Bryant, Dillon Napoleon, Ben Bullard and Michael Busby combined to give up just three earned runs over 27.2 innings for an ERA of 0.98. The foursome totaled 21 strikeouts to just one walk and only allowed two extra-base hits.
As a staff, UAB posted a 1.62 ERA for the week, giving up just seven earned runs in 39.0 total innings and holding opponents to a .175 batting average.
SCOUTING JACKSONVILLE STATE
The Gamecocks captured the series finale of a three-game set against North Florida on Sunday for the team's first win of the season.
JSU is hitting .218 as a team, but has launched four homers in five games.
The main bright spot on offense for the Gamecocks has been Erik Underwood, who is hitting at a .364 clip (8-for-22) with a double, homer and three RBI.
An odd stat from JSU is that threw five games, it has not attempted a steal or recorded a sac bunt or sac fly.
