BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB men's tennis team will be on the road this weekend for a pair of tough matches against a Big 12 Conference opponent and the defending Conference USA champion.
The Blazers will play both matches at the Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus. UAB (6-2) will meet Oklahoma State Saturday at 1:00 p.m. before taking on 19th-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane Sunday at 1:00.
UAB is coming off a 6-1 victory over Troy at home on Tuesday, an impressive performance on the heels of a tight 4-3 loss to then No.-43 Vanderbilt last Sunday. The loss to the Commodores snapped a four-match win streak for the Blazers.
"We bounced back nicely against Troy after a disappointing loss," said UAB head coach Derek Tarr. "I was a little concerned about how the guys would respond, but we played well and I feel like we're going into the weekend with a lot of confidence."
Saturday's match with Oklahoma State will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The Cowboys come into the matchup with a 3-1 record but haven't played since a 5-2 loss to No. 63 San Diego State on Feb. 11. OSU defeated No. 57 UNLV, 4-3, a day earlier.
Tulsa (5-6) is coming off a 4-3 loss at home Friday to 13th-ranked Pepperdine. Of the Golden Hurricane's 11 matches, eight of those contests have been against teams that were ranked in the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Top 25. Tulsa won the 2011 C-USA championship and captured the league title five of the past six years.
