BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Senior Dillon Napoleon was tabbed Conference USA Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office on Monday for his efforts on the hill at No. 16 Clemson.
Napoleon put forth an excellent season debut on the mound as UAB defeated No. 16 Clemson, 2-1, on the road to start the 2012 campaign.
In the victory, Napoleon held the Tigers' prolific lineup to one run (earned) on four hits over 7.0 innings. The right-hander kept the Tigers off balance all night and forced the home squad to strand seven base runners.
During his start, Napoleon induced 15 fly outs, four groundouts and added a strike out, while retiring Clemson in order in three of his seven innings of work to earn the win.
His lone strikeout was the final batter he faced in the bottom of the seventh with the tying run on base.
It marks the second time that Napoleon has won the C-USA Pitcher of the Week award during his career in Green and Gold. He also earned the honor on April 4, 2011.
