BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Fresh off a 75-29 victory against Brewton-Parker, the UAB women's basketball team is set for its second exhibition game of the year Monday evening as the squad hosts the University of Alabama at Huntsville at 7 p.m. CT inside Bartow Arena.
Head coach Audra Smith's team was dominant in its first exhibition contest, holding the Barons to a 26-percent shooting clip from the field. Monday's game will be UAB's final test before the start of the 2012 season.
"I want to see improvement in every game we play in," Smith said. "Our defense has to improve, our help-side defense must improve, and I definitely want to see our rebounding improve. We are not boxing out right now, but these are all things I hope to see us do on Monday."
The Blazers were led by senior guard Amber Jones against Brewton-Parker. The Town Creek, Ala., native paced all scorers with 17 in the game to go along with a 6-for-10 shooting performance from the field.
Junior guard Ashley Grimes also had a strong showing with her 16 points and five rebounds against the Barons.
UAB has played the Chargers in 17 regular season games with the Blazers holding a 15-2 advantage in the series. The two teams last met on Dec. 2, 1989 - an 88-44 UAB win.
Following Monday's meeting, the Blazers open regular season play on Friday, Nov. 9 against Austin Peay at Noon CT inside Bartow Arena.
