Women's Soccer Drops Match At UTEP

EL PASO, Texas--The UAB women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to UTEP on Friday night at University Field.
The Miners scored first, in the third minute, and senior Emma Jane Smith scored the equalizer for UAB (2-11, 1-4 C-USA) late in the ninth after she took control of a blocked shot attempt by freshman Paige Hanks. The goal marks Smith's second of the season.
Sophomore midfielder Johanna Liney scored in the Blazers' second goal of the night in the 57th minute. Liney has recorded a team high of five goals on the season, and also leads the team in points with 11.
UTEP (8-6, 1-4 C-USA) scored its final two goals of the game in the 35th and 48th minutes by Azia Nicholson and Alexis Alaniz, respectively.
The Blazers will be back in action on Sunday at Colorado College, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. CT (Noon MT).
