Jones, Guzman Flying High In European Leagues

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Two former UAB women's basketball players, Britney Jones and Carmen Guzman, are putting up big numbers this year playing professionally in Europe.
Jones is playing for Fjolnir Reykjavic in Iceland, where she is the top scorer in the Women's Premier League at 29.6 points per game. She also leads the league in steals at 4.5 per game and ranks third is assists at 5.9 per game.
The Chicago, Ill., native finished her UAB career second on the school's all-time steals list (240), seventh in assists (334) and ninth in points (1,601 points). She has also played professionally in Puerto Rico and Greece.
Guzman is playing for MBK Ruzomberok in the Slovakian Extraliga. She leads the league is steals at 3.7 per game, ranks second in assists at 5.5 per game and eighth in scoring at 13.9 points per game. Her team is in second place in the league standings with a 13-2 record as of Jan. 30.
A native of New York, N.Y., Guzman ranks fourth all-time at UAB in scoring (1,731 points), fourth in steals (220) and ninth in assists (322). She has also spent time playing professionally in Germany, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
Jones and Guzman were teammates for two years at UAB with Guzman playing from 2003-07 and Jones from 2005-09.
