BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's soccer team will challenge Conference USA opponents East Carolina and Marshall to cap off a four-game road stretch this weekend. The Blazers will travel to the East Carolina Soccer Stadium in Greenville, N.C. to face the Pirates on Friday at 6 p.m. CT., before wrapping up the tour on Sunday in Huntington, W.Va. against Marshall with a 12 p.m. CT kick off.
The Blazers (3-7-0, 0-2-0 C-USA) fell in the first two games of the C-USA road spell last weekend. UAB endured a 4-0 loss to Rice on Friday, before being edged by Houston, 2-1, on Sunday. East Carolina (5-3-1, 0-2 C-USA) dropped both games in the C-USA opening weekend. The Pirates were blanked 2-0 at Colorado College and lost 3-2 at UTEP. Junior midfielder Caty Butler paces the Pirates with 14 points (6g-2a) on 12 shots, 10 on frame.
UAB leads the all-time series against ECU, 2-1-4. The last four contests have resulted in ties, including a 1-1 draw in the most recent showdown on Oct. 10, 2010 in Birmingham.
Marshall (2-7-1, 0-2 C-USA) begins a four-game home stand this weekend beginning with league-leading No. 6 Memphis on Friday at 7 p.m. ET before meeting the Blazers on Sunday. The Herd was shutout in both games on the road a week ago, falling 1-0 to both UTEP and Colorado College. Senior forward Angela DeSumma tops the team with three goals and three assists.
The Blazers lead the all-time series against the Thundering Herd, 6-1. Last season, UAB defeated Marshall 1-0 in overtime at West Campus Field (10/8/10).
